Mornings Made Perfect: 7 Cool Cafes in Toronto

Share This Post:

Cool cafes in Toronto are a dime a dozen, but which ones are the best? When the sun rises and the birds start chirping, we know that we need our morning cup of coffee to get our day off to a good start. There are so many options for delicious takes on classic drip and elegant espressos that provide that morning jolt of energy.

Here are some of our favourite cool cafes in Toronto, which we’ve taken the time to break down by neighbourhood…

Reunion Island Coffee Company (Roncesvalles Village)

Reunion Island is a West End staple that has been going strong since 1995. This charming little enclave is as Toronto as they come, and features an open-concept interior where you can see the talented baristas hard at work. This is a place for coffee snobs, hard-at-work freelancers, or families passing through on their way to High Park – aka the perfect community hotspot, and one of the most iconic cool cafes in Toronto.

Hale Coffee Roasters (Junction Triangle)

This is just one of the many exciting things going on in the Junction Triangle! Hale Coffee Roasters has set up shop in an industrial setting, with an atmosphere that is unforgettable. The coffee is roasted on site and is always fresh. Come for the coffee, stay for the strong community vibes.

Quantum Coffee (King West)

Quantum Coffee is a relatively new addition to the coffee scene in Toronto, taking up prime real estate right on the corner of King and Spadina. Quantum Coffee can be found in a heritage building from 1906 – the former Hotel Spadina – and is filled with friendly baristas and a huge open-air lounge area to take in your cup. The best part? They lay claim to the city’s best Americano, which is hard to argue once you’ve tried it.

Odin Café + Bar (Corktown)

One of the most stylish cafes in Toronto, Odin is consistently ranked in the top ten for the most awe-inspiring cafes in Canada. Sparse, Nordic-inspired, and brimming with modern design – and even better coffee – anyone would be lucky to have Odin as their everyday coffee destination,

Mercury Espresso Bar (Leslieville)

After almost a decade of being in business, Mercury Espresso Bar is now at the forefront of all the exciting stuff going down in Leslieville. This space is cozy as can be, and really feels like its apart of the community. Come here for a simple cup, or stay a while and enjoy a meticulously-crafted latte. Either way, this place is out of this world.

The Coffee Lab (The Annex)

Small but mighty, The Coffee Lab bills itself as Toronto’s smallest café. Hidden inside a book store, this little nook of caffeinated delights is worth the trip. Not only do you get to enjoy the bookstore ambience, but you get to enjoy some seriously good coffee in the heart of the Annex. This is a get-in-and-get-out sort of place, and is perfect for just about any morning commute in this neck of the woods.

Boxcar Social (Summerhill)

Covering two floors and the backyard of an old Victorian home, Boxcar Social has quickly cemented itself as a Toronto institution. Featuring some of the most skilled baristas in one of the city’s best areas, this is the snug sort of place that is perfect for meeting old friends, new clients, or simply enjoying a quiet moment in the city. Even better, they’re fully licensed – so you can come back in the evening to enjoy the rustic digs.
