Many people have big dreams about the once-in-a-lifetime experiences they want to enjoy at some point. For those lucky enough to live in Toronto, there’s a world of excitement and wonder right here at home. Outstanding shopping and dining are just the start.
In any neighbourhood, you could be steps away from a historic, environmental, or architectural marvel, either well-known or off the beaten path. In this post, we’ll highlight a few “bucket list” places in Toronto that you must see and experience at least once.
World-Class Attractions
Toronto is famous for many reasons, including for its unforgettable attractions and points of interest. From the iconic CN Tower, Royal Ontario Museum, and the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) to the many outstanding sports and music venues, there’s always something new to discover. You could visit these attractions multiple times, and they will never lose any of their magic.
Ripley’s Aquarium
Come and view the world’s most fascinating aquatic life in a true-to-life simulation of their natural habitat. Ripley’s Aquarium presents an immersive, yet completely dry and safe underwater adventure, with sharks, sea turtles, sea horses, jellyfish, and vast schools of colourful fish all waiting to say “hello.”
Get up close and personal with some sting rays, too. They are well-accustomed to human interaction. You can even pet them as they swim by in a shallow touch pool. If you love seeing nature’s most beautiful and elusive creatures, the aquarium will soon become a favourite destination.
Massey Hall
It’s always a good idea to book your ticket in advance for the next big-name performer or production that comes to Massey Hall. In this case, it’s not even about the talent, it’s about the venue! This iconic auditorium in the Garden District is known for its phenomenal acoustics.
The sheer quality of sound is why Massey Hall is the venue of choice for so many bands and solo musicians. It’s also why attending a concert here truly deserves a top spot on your Toronto bucket list!

Casa Loma
Casa Loma is one of Toronto’s most underrated points of interest, and there’s always a long list of fun activities and exhibits. This majestic mansion was originally constructed for financier Sir Henry Pellatt in 1914. Today, it is an official historic site for the City of Toronto, as well as a popular spot for film and television crews.
If you can summon the courage, come and brave the grounds during the Legends of Horror Halloween event, where you explore haunted gardens, stables, and even underground tunnels. (Some people have described the experience as quite terrifying, with jump scares provided by live actors in costumes. For a calmer experience, you can always visit during family hours when there’s more daylight and no actors).
If you prefer a more festive and joyous atmosphere, check out Christmas at the Castle and the Holiday Lights Tour. Between the decorated trees, the lights, and the meet and greet with Santa himself, you are sure to find yourself in a holiday mood!
These seasonal events are fabulous, but you don’t have to wait to enjoy an afternoon or evening at Casa Loma. You can admire the towers, gardens, and mysterious secret passages nearly any day in the year.

Breathtaking Natural Wonders
Visitors to Toronto are often delighted to see how much natural beauty there is nearly everywhere you go. Long-time residents appreciate these wonders every day, with more than 1,500 parks and trails to explore. Here are a few standout landmarks you simply must make time for.
Allen Gardens
Fragrance, colour, beauty, and all the wonders of nature combine in an indoor adventure that will warm your heart during even the coldest of winters.
Cactuses, flowers, and plants of all sizes and species thrive here. As you stroll down the lush, green paths, you can’t help but feel your spirits lift. Admission is free of charge, but the Friends of Allen Gardens are happy to accept donations to keep all five indoor greenhouses in full bloom.
Chester Hill Lookout
Speaking of free activities in Toronto, Chester Hill Lookout is yet another hidden gem. Imagine gorgeous, panoramic views that include the city skyline, the Don Valley Parkway, the historic Prince Edward Viaduct, and the Evergreen Brickworks. It’s a lot of beauty to take in, which makes it the perfect spot for a selfie or a friend group photo.
If life is made up of moments, your vantage point from here will be one to remember. The view is magnificent anytime, but it is especially magical as the sun sets.

Scarborough Bluffs
The soaring, dramatic 90-metre cliffs at the Scarborough Bluffs are unlike anything else you will ever see. These natural cliffs were first formed from glacial sediments, and they remain one of Toronto’s most awe-inspiring wonders. You can see and experience it all at Bluffer’s Park Beach, with its stunning trails, picnic spots, and of course, pristine beaches.
The Scarborough Bluffs are approximately 30 minutes from downtown Toronto by car. It is also accessible via the TTC if you want to spend your time enjoying the sights rather than searching for parking. While you’re here, you might as well admire some of the sculptures at Guild Park & Gardens.
The Redway Road Staircase
Located at Crothers Woods (near Millwood Road and Redway Road) lies one of Toronto’s best hidden marvels. Nearly 200 steps lead down into the forested Don River Valley ravine.
After taking in unimaginable scenery, you might find it hard to believe that this staircase was once an emergency escape route for employees of the sewage treatment centre. Today, it’s a favourite natural oasis for hikers, mountain bikers, and anyone looking for a fun way to get some fresh air. This vantage point is particularly spectacular during the fall when all of the colours are on display.
