Are you a dog lover? If so, you’re far from alone. We Torontonians are pretty devoted to our four-legged friends. From high-end doggy daycares to spacious off-leash parks, this city is teeming with services and amenities designed specifically for your best friend.

Which communities are the most dog-friendly? Here, we’ll look at five Toronto neighbourhoods that are perfect for dog owners.

1) Riverdale

More than anything, a dog-friendly neighbourhood needs to have plenty of greenspaces. Riverdale definitely fits the bill. The area features plenty of great spots to let your pup run around and socialize, including Orphan’s Greenspace, Norwood Park, and (of course) Riverdale Park.

There’s also an abundance of Riverdale pet-care supply stores. One of the latest neighbourhood favourites is Knick Knack Paddywhack, which offers wholesome pet food options as well as grooming. Swing by to treat your pooch to some pampering—or get the shop to deliver some grain-free kibble right to your home.

2) Leslieville

When it comes to the ultimate dog-friendly neighbourhood, nearby Leslieville just might give Riverdale a run for its money. There’s no shortage of off-leash space, which you’ll find Greenwood Park, Hideaway Park, and Gerrard – Carlaw Parkette (to name a few).

On a hot day, we highly recommend nearby Cherry Beach. Take a walk down the Martin Goodman Trail, then let your furry friend splash around on one of the city’s best dog-friendly beaches.

Leslieville you’ll also find many businesses for dog lovers. Take Paws Playground, a luxury kennel and doggie daycare that offers 10,000 square feet of play space. And before dinner, you might want to pop into Tom & Sawyer to pick up some freshly-prepared doggie meals made with high-quality ingredients.

3) Roncesvalles

There’s no doubt about it: Roncy residents absolutely adore their dogs. Take your pooch to Sorauren Park’s completely fenced-in, off-leash area, and you’ll likely meet a whole pack of proud doggy moms and dads.

Kennel Cafe is a great local spot for organic and earth-friendly dog products. And Dog’s and Goddesses offers extensive salons services—from message to doggy pedicures.

What about the health of your four-legged friend? Roncesvalles Animal Hospital is one of the city’s most trusted providers of veterinary services. The hospital provides dental and emergency, as well as grooming and kennels.

4) High Park

Speaking of vet services, many Torontonians swear that Dundas West Animal Hospital is the best place to tend to your pet’s health concerns. The hospital offers an extensive list of services, including surgery, ultrasounds, and pain management.

Of course, we couldn’t talk about how great it is to own a dog in High Park without talking about the park. Long, off-leash trails allow your canine companion to explore the outdoors, and busy Dog Hill is a great place for them (and you) to socialize. In short, High Park is the perfect spot to bring your dog on a sunny day.

5) Trinity Bellwoods

Last on the list: Trinity Bellwoods. This vibrant neighbourhood has a lot to offer your dog, including Trinity Bellwoods Park. The sprawling park provides plenty of green space, as well as an off-leash pit that’s complete with a doggy drinking fountain.

Like the other neighbourhoods on our list, Trinity Bellwoods is the location of many high-quality pet food and supply businesses. One of the best is the Dog Bowl, which sells a wide selection of natural, local, and specialty products.

What about vet services? Rest assured. When your pooch needs a checkup, you can’t go wrong with Queen West Animal Hospital.
