5 Fun Things to Do With Kids in Toronto This Spring

It’s been a long winter, but spring is finally on the horizon. For families, that means one thing: it’s time to get outside and enjoy nature. While some springtime activities are more kid-friendly than others, there’s no shortage of fun things to do with children in and around Toronto this season. So dig out those lighter coats, round up your little ones, and prepare to explore the great outdoors!

If you’re looking to enjoy the milder spring weather with your kids, here are five fun ways to do it…

1) Visit Evergreen Brick Works

Located in the Don River Valley, Evergreen Brick Works is a marketplace and learning environment devoted to all things eco-conscious. It’s also the perfect place for outdoorsy Toronto families to spend a Saturday or Sunday together. Hit up the farmer’s market, then take your kids to the Children’s Garden—a hands-on, open-air play space. You’ll also find an abundance of great biking and nature trails, which are well worth exploring when the weather warms up!

2) Head to Riverdale Farm

Everyone’s favourite urban farm is especially fun when springtime rolls around. If you’ve never been to Riverdale Farm, now’s the time to grab the kids and head to Cabbagetown. Stroll the grounds to get up close and personal with barnyard animals, including horses, cows, pigs, and chickens (among others). In addition to the sights you would expect to see on a working farm, this 7.5-acre space is the site of several trails that are absolutely gorgeous in the spring.

3) Easter at the Toronto Zoo

Home to over 5000 animals, the Toronto Zoo is a favourite with families across the GTA. While it’s always easy to spend a full day at this Rouge Valley attraction, Easter weekend is an especially good time to go. Start by bringing your younguns to the Kids Zoo, where they can interact with live rabbits and other domestic animals. Afterwards, they’ll love getting their photos taken with the Easter Bunny. Don’t forget to check out the exotic species that the zoo is famous for—including lions and hippos.

4) Spend the day in High Park

Toronto’s largest green space is magical in the spring, when nature truly comes alive. Take the kids to High Park to enjoy the blooming plants and native wildlife. If your children are small, the Jamie Bell Adventure Playground is another must-visit spot. This unique play area features a castle-like structure, ropes, swings, slides, and more. The park is also a great place for your four-legged family members, who can run around in the massive off-leash area. Remember to see the cherry blossoms late in the season—they’re truly spectacular!

5) Check out the Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival

Does your family love maple syrup? If so, why not round everyone up and head out of town for some sweet treats and outdoor fun. This year, the Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival will be taking place in Woodbridge, Orangeville, Halton Hills, and Stouffville. Take the kids on a day trip to enjoy a wagon ride, see how trees are tapped, and (of course) taste some delicious maple syrup. This truly unique festival is on until April 7th, so get out your calendar and find a weekend that works!
