Updated 2024
There’s nothing quite like hitting the trails as the weather heats up. Fortunately for Toronto residents, the city is full of serene, breathtaking parks and trails. You can escape to nature anytime, whether you’re looking for an hour of relaxation or an all-day adventure.
If you’re searching for a scenic place for a refreshing stroll or bike ride, you have plenty of options. As one of the greenest cities in Canada, Toronto offers too many incredible natural paradises to name. However, here is an overview of a few of our favourites.
1) Beltline Trail
Built along an old railway line, the Beltline Trail is a true midtown gem. These pretty nine kilometres are perfect for taking a stroll, jog, or bike ride. The path is split into three sections:
- The York Beltline Trail, which lies west of Allen Road. The city is also planning an extension south of Roselawn Avenue between Marlee Avenue and Allen Road.
- The Kay Gardner Beltline Park, which runs from Allen Road south of Elm Ridge Drive west to Mount Pleasant Cemetery. This path is also part of Toronto’s Central Ravines, Beltline and Gardens Discovery Walk!!
- The Ravine Beltline Trail, which runs through the Moore Park Ravine.
All in all, this is a great way to explore well-treed paths and some of the most beautiful neighbourhoods in the city—from Rosedale to Moore Park. Along the way, you can stop to take in some scenery at Evergreen Brick Works, which also hosts a fantastic farmer’s market.

2) Waterfront Trail
This 22-kilometre stretch along the water is actually part of the much longer Great Lakes Waterfront Trail. The portion that goes through Toronto is something to behold. Known as the Martin Goodman Trail, it provides glittering lakefront views and plenty of greenery.
Whether you’re walking, running, or bird watching, you’ll enjoy the many convenient access points available. These include (but aren’t limited to) Sir Casmir Gzowski Park (at the Humber Bridge), High Park, Cherry Beach, and Ashbridge’s Park Bay.
This is one trail where you might want to make an afternoon of it. Few things compare with its incredible waterfront views, and you can always stop at a trendy cafe or bistro to keep your energy levels up.
3) Scarborough Bluffs Hiking Trail
Situated in the east end, the Scarborough Bluffs are a stunning geological feature that every Torontonian should see. These gorgeous white cliffs reach a height of 300 kilometres, and they border fine sand beaches.
As you take in the majestic sight of these towering, natural formations, you won’t wonder why this has become one of Toronto’s most treasured landmarks. You can even cool off at the sandy beach at Bluffers Park.
You’ll also find a walking trail though the bluffs, which creates a 5-km loop. Enjoy the shimmering Lake Ontario views, or explore one of the 11 other parks that are accessible from the trail.
4) Moore Park Ravine
In the heart of midtown, you’ll find a true natural oasis known as Moore Park Ravine. While it’s technically part of the Beltline Trail, it deserves a callout of its own.
This lush, ultra-green trail is a big draw for wildlife enthusiasts, who occasionally see a whitetail deer scampering through the brush. A charming pedestrian bridge and easy-to-traverse terrain round out the reasons why you should make this your next outdoor destination.

5) Black Creek Trail
The Black Creek Trail is a relatively easy, 5-kilometre stretch of natural outdoor space that sits deep in the west end. This beautiful valley was once thoroughly groomed, but today it takes on more of a well-kempt-yet-wild look. Arguably, it has a lot more character.
Featuring both paved and natural land, this trail is ideal for cyclists who want a bit of variety. Nearby, Black Creek Pioneer Village provides a great historical adventure for little ones.
