6. Dundas, Ontario
Travel Time: 1 hour
Nestled just outside of Hamilton, the community of Dundas (also known as “The Valley Town”) sits at the foot of the beautiful Niagara Escarpment. Dundas makes for a perfect winter getaway thanks to Dundas Peak, which surveys all of Hamilton. Thanks to the lack of foliage, the city has the perfect opportunity to shine in winter (literally and figuratively). Admire the historic downtown, traverse the waterfalls, and explore Dundurn Castle.

5. Paris, Ontario
Travel Time: 1 hour 20 minutes
Often regarded as one of the prettiest towns in Ontario, Paris is known for its distinct European charm (which goes well beyond just its name). You’ll see it everywhere, especially in the cobblestone houses and homes that sit on the edge of the Grand River. The small-town charm of Paris is a great way to escape the concrete jungle in the winter.

Who could forget about Niagara Falls? During the wintertime, you can enjoy the frozen grandeur of the falls, the naturally-occurring ice “sculptures” that form on walls, lampposts, trees, and buildings (thanks to the mist of the falls), and the annual Winter Festival of Lights that is held until the end of January. There are also great opportunities to enjoy indoor fun, like the wax museum and the Fallsview Indoor Waterpark, all downtown.

Elora is another charming small town that relies on the natural beauty surrounding it. While most come in the summer to cool off at the Elora Quarry, the colder months are perfect for those who love a little bit of adventure. Bundle up and enjoy the trails, peer out over the Elora Gorge, and grab a warm drink at Desert Rose Café or the Lost and Found Café.

Regardless of the season, Stratford is always a perfect getaway. Featuring historic buildings, Victorian-style architecture, amazing restaurants, and the iconic Shakespeare Festival, Stratford’s charm is rooted in its combination of hip locales and cozy neighbourhood energy. It’s easily worth the trip.
